Hey, I’m Burke.

I run school operations for a living — buses, boilers, budgets, and everything in between.

Each week, I share the lessons nobody’s teaching in leadership books — just what works when you’re actually in the building.

If you’re in the trenches too, this is for you.

Let’s jump in.

The 41st Day

Leadership has seasons.
Some are easy like progress, wins, recognition.
And some feel like wilderness.

The kind of stretch where you show up every day and wonder if any of it’s working.

I’ve been thinking about that lately, how often Scripture points to “40.”
Forty days of rain.
Forty years in the desert.
Forty days of fasting and testing.

And then there’s always a 41st.

Day 41 is when the rain stops.
When the desert ends.
When the promise finally shows up.

It’s not just a Bible pattern. It’s a leadership truth.

The Season That Tests You

Every leader eventually hits a 40.

It’s that season when everything feels uphill:
Budgets cut.
Projects stalled.
Team turnover.
Decisions questioned.

You start to wonder if the grind is ever going to break.

But here’s the thing — day 41 always comes.
Not always in the way you expect.
But it comes for leaders who stay faithful through day 40.

Faith Isn’t Just a Word — It’s a Skill

In operations, faith looks a lot like endurance.

It’s showing up when no one notices.
It’s leading calmly when pressure’s rising.
It’s staying consistent when results are slow.

That’s not passive hope — that’s active faith.
And that’s what 40-day seasons are for: they build the muscles that breakthroughs require.

No leader gets the trust, credibility, or peace of mind of day 41 without the perseverance of the 40 before it.

The Work You Don’t See Yet

In those “40-day” stretches, something’s always happening behind the scenes.

Teams are watching how you handle pressure.
Boards are noticing your consistency.
Your own perspective is being refined.

It’s rarely wasted time — it’s usually preparation time.

Because when the breakthrough finally hits, you’ll realize you didn’t just survive the trial — you grew through it.

Built to Lead Challenge

Think back on a tough stretch that eventually broke open.

What did day 41 look like for you?
And what did the 40 before it teach you?

Now, write down one current challenge you’re facing — something that feels stuck.
Label it “Day 32” or “Day 37.”

Then remind yourself: I’m just not at 41 yet.

Closing

The difference between an average leader and a resilient one is simple — they don’t quit on Day 40.

Your job isn’t to predict Day 41.
It’s to stay faithful until it shows up.

See you next week.
Until then, lead steady. Keep the unseen running strong.
